The Very Best was established in 1921 by Christ George (CLICK HERE TO READ HIS BIOGRAPHY) and carried on by his two son-in-laws Chris and John until 2007. In August of 2007 Joe Miller and Amy Shuster became the proud new owners of The Very Best. In 2008, Joe and Amy brought in Mike to join the family. We are carrying on the family tradition for all families to come and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that has been associated with the restaurant over the past 87 years. It was a weekly tradition in the Miller family to come to The Very Best for hot dogs. Joe, Amy and Mike are proud to be the new owners of the oldest restaurant in Pottstown. We would like thank you for your patronage and also for making us The Very Best.
The Very Best Wiener Shop in Pottstown, PA opened in 1921 and has been serving the Famous Hot Dogs for 86 years. It was operated by a father who then passed it down to his son-in-laws. The "Very Best Wiener Shop" is known for their amazing hot dogs and the special meat sauce they put on top of your dog. The restaurant is also open for breakfast and has many other items on the menu.
In July 2007, Joe Miller and Amy Shuster along with Joe's dad Barry Miller will become only the third owners in the history of this restaurant. We wanted to buy this restaurant because of the memories Joe has going back years when Joe’s grandfather (Perse Miller) would bring Joe’s father (Barry Miller) for dinner every Friday night. After Joe was born Joe's Dad would bring Joe here every weekend for lunch. Joe has been bringing his son here since he was just a little guy and now brings Amy’s two kids here as well. It’s a big family lunch on Saturday’s for us that everyone looks forward too. We wanted to keep this a family restaurant and a family tradition.
My Dad is going to run the day to day operations of the restaurant and Amy will be doing all the bookkeeping and accounting. We will both be helping in the evenings and weekends too. We don't plan on changing anything that has been successful with the business. All the current employees will be staying and the current owners will stay on to help with the transition.
We may add some interesting items to the specials this summer like pulled pork sandwiches, and Texas style brisket sandwiches!
