I don't know why I Googled The Very Best...maybe I was hungry for a hot dog, but I'm glad I did. I moved from Pottstown 35+ years ago. The entire Christ Family were very good friends of me and my family. I remember the original location and visiting with Pappou when we went into the "shop". The Very Best was my first job in high school at the present location. I remember the great customers and other wonderful waitresses especially Betty! She was like a mother to all of us. The regulars had their dogs a certain way and almost always had atleast two. Even though I saw Mr.Christ make the chile many times I have never been able to duplicate the finely cooked beef and awesome flavor of all the spices. I heard the Christs closed the restauraunt but wasn't aware that someone else purchased it from them. I haven't been back to Pottstown in many years but when I do get there the Very Best will be my first stop for a hot dog with chile and a cheese steak. You just can't get that chile or a real cheese steak in Texas. Joe and Amy, thanks for keeping the memories going!

In my entire life I have had the pleasure of MAYBE a half-dozen restaurants like THE VERY BEST. Simply put, any community that doesn't have a place like The Very Best cannot really be a community. The food, the staff, and the experience are what I hope for everytime I go to a restaurant; as I said, MAYBE half-a-dozen other places have lived up to it so far.

I am so fond of The Very Best, that I took advantage of my position as a blogger for Roadside online to tell all of their readers about it. Fans of this awesome restaurant who post comments here may enjoy reading it, as well...

I've been eating at the Very Best since it was in it's original location on Hanover St. My mom would take me there when I was a little boy, and it was always a big treat for me. Now I take my boys there. We live in Collegeville, but will gladly drive to Pottstown to get the "Very Best" hot dogs anywhere.

I miss this place i am going to say that this was my first job it was a tough start for waitressing but once i got the hang of it, i was on the roll. I loved meeting all types of people it was a fun and sociable atmosphere Working for Chris and john was wonderful and when the new owners took over it still stayed the same and that's what keeps the very best! I always loved my breaks because that's when i had their famous hot dogs!

I have had the pleasure of eating at The Very Best three times. The only reason I haven't been significantly more times is, I live in suburban Detroit. But when I visit my friends in Pottstown, The Very Best is a MUST stop. I love everything about it, from the sign out front, to the grill by the window, to the paper placemats with more advertisements than a NASCAR racing suit, and of course, the FOOD! And last but certainly not least, Mike is a really cool and fun host.

I was originally turned on to The Very Best because I once heard that it is Daryl Hall's favorite restaurant in his old hometown. I am not sure if Daryl still stops by when he comes back to visit, but I hope for his sake that he does, or else he would really be missing out.

I'm looking forward to the next time I will be in the Pottstown area for breakfast or lunch, because I will most certainly be stopping by The Very Best!

I've always loved The Very Best Weiner since way back in the Hanover Street location days when eager hot dog lovers waited in line out the door for a great hot dog. I've lived in Hawaii for 25 years , now, but ALWAYS look forward to a couple visits to Very Best on our visits "back home". The hot dogs in Hawaii just don't compare. See you soon !!!

'Very Best' lives up to name

We recently had breakfast at The Very Best on High Street. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted by the owners and some of the waitstaff by my husband's first name. We were waited on immediately and our food, which was delicious, was served up hot and promptly.

The atmosphere is relaxed and home-like. The owners, Joe and Amy, and their waitstaff treat their customers like family. Everyone is cheerful and friendly. Many of the customers are regulars and know each other as well. There was plenty of laughter and storytelling that morning.

This is the kind of establishment that can help revitalize Pottstown. Places like this that don't judge you by your status or position in life but promote unity, friendship and community.
